AI.

It is difficult to make a blanket statement about whether or not artificial intelligence (AI) is bad for students to use. The potential impact of AI on students will depend on several factors, including how it is used and the specific context in which it is used.

AI in the Balance.

AI can enhance students’ learning experience significantly. For example, AI-powered tutoring systems can provide personalized and tailored feedback to students, allowing them to learn more effectively and efficiently. AI can also help automate tedious tasks, such as grading homework assignments, freeing teachers to focus on other aspects of teaching and learning.

On the other hand, there are also potential concerns about using AI in education. For example, relying too heavily on AI-powered systems to teach and evaluate students may lead to a lack of critical thinking skills and creativity. In addition, there is the potential for AI systems to perpetuate bias, either in the data used to train them or in the way that they are designed and implemented.

Student Benefits.

There are several potential benefits for students to use artificial intelligence (AI). Some of these benefits include:

Improved accessibility: AI can help to make education more accessible to students with disabilities by providing alternative ways of accessing and interacting with educational materials.

Enhanced learning experiences: AI-powered technologies, such as virtual and augmented reality, can provide students with engaging and immersive learning experiences to help improve retention and understanding of complex concepts.

Increased engagement: AI can keep students engaged and motivated by providing personalized recommendations for learning materials and activities based on their interests and needs.

Teacher Benefits.

There are several potential benefits for teachers to use artificial intelligence (AI). Some of these benefits include:

Personalized and tailored feedback: AI-powered tutoring systems can provide personalized feedback to students based on their individual needs and abilities, allowing them to learn more effectively and efficiently.

Automation of tedious tasks: AI can help automate tedious tasks, such as grading homework assignments, freeing teachers to focus on other aspects of teaching and learning.

Improved efficiency: AI can help teachers manage their time and resources by providing tools and systems to help with tasks such as lesson planning and assessment.

Enhanced personalized learning: AI can help teachers to provide personalized and tailored instruction to students based on their individual needs and abilities, allowing them to learn more effectively and efficiently.

Conclusion.

In conclusion, while AI can enhance the education experience significantly, it is essential to carefully consider its potential drawbacks and use it in a balanced and responsible way.

Not AI.

Here’s another example of teachers using AI. Instead of preventing AI, use the AI-generated essay and have students proofread and fact-check it. However, this may be the future, and it is here now. If you have yet to notice, AI created most of this article, including the title. The AI I used was ChatGPT. So, ask ChatGPT “What is your cutoff date for the information you have been trained on?” As of this article, the response was “My knowledge cutoff is 2021, so I do not have any information about events or developments that have occurred since then.”

Furthermore, the AI I used for grammar and plagiarism checks was Grammarly. I did have to edit it for readability, redundancy, and to add some headers to each section. Even Grammarly edits were only partially correct. Also, Canva’s Text-to-Image tool generated the image using the prompts “Artificial Intelligence in Education” and “Artificial Intelligence in the Classroom” with added text by me. Finally, if you are listening to the podcast version, I’m using Resemble AI to generate my voice.

  1. Quick Explainer:

Moral Panic is the fear of cultural change. Artificial Intelligence has existed in different ways. In video games, a low level AI needed to react to your actions, often called CPU. AI helps solve problems similar to a calculator solving an equation. On the other hand, Chat GPT has limitations since it does not have data after 2021. In either case, it’s time to embrace it as an educational tool. Try to create an reading lesson plan. Just ask. Even Canva has Magic Write to help write essays. Just ask students to proof read it and check for accuracy and plagiarism instead. Learn more now and be ready for the future.

  2. From around the web. I will be posting interesting information I find around the Internet (probably mainly on TikTok) with other educators’ views on how to use it, etc.
