Video-based learning has become a popular method for acquiring new skills and knowledge. Whether you are learning a new language, taking an online course, or watching a tutorial, video content can be an effective and engaging way to learn. On that note, follow me (Mr.G) on YouTube & TikTok. However, to get the most out of video-based learning, it is crucial to approach it with a strategy. This strategy comes from my experience as a teacher and a learner.
Here are the 4Ps of video learning:
- Pause the video at each section: Pausing the video at each section allows you to absorb the information presented and take notes if necessary. It also gives you time to think about what you have just learned and ask yourself questions.
- Probe for the information you may have missed or rewind to listen again: If you miss a critical piece of information, don’t hesitate to rewind and listen again. Probing information will ensure that you fully understand the information presented and can apply it in the future.
- Perform the actions shown in the video: Video-based learning is an interactive form of education. A great way to retain information is to participate actively. So, try to perform the actions shown in the video. Practicing will help you to understand the concepts better and retain the information.
- Play the video to continue: After pausing, probing, and performing the actions shown, it is time to move on to the next part. Watching the video will provide you with a complete understanding of the topic and help you retain the information.
Video-based learning can be an effective and engaging way to acquire new skills and knowledge. By following the 4Ps of video learning (pause, probe, perform, & play), you will be able to get the most out of your video-based learning experiences and retain the information presented.
