We talked about Applied Digital Skills regarding how that curriculum can positively impact educators and students. This works excellent for Career & Technical Education courses like Business Information Management, Technology Applications/Education, or Principles of Information Technology. However, the beauty of that curriculum is that it can complement any subject area.
Why Applied Digital Skills?
Google believes that all students should have an opportunity to meaningfully engage with technical skills of the future because learners today need basic digital literacy skills to be successful in any career, in any field.
These are skills like communication, collaboration, creativity, and critical thinking (commonly known as the 4 C’s), and it’s increasingly important to exercise these skills in a digital environment. This holds true for life and, in particular, for jobs.
What is the Applied Digital Skills curriculum?
In response, Google developed Applied Digital Skills, a free, video-based, and online curriculum that prepares students of all ages for the growing number of jobs requiring basic digital skills.
The curriculum has been designed to equip students with practical skills to help them succeed in the evolving job market and real-life situations.
Since it was launched in 2017, students have been using the curriculum with their library media specialists or teachers in foreign languages, math, history, culinary arts, and more.
State Standards.
The curriculum design has also considered the need to meet state standards. It is currently aligned with state technology standards across the country and has received the Seal of Alignment for Proficiency by ISTE.
These lessons are modular, so they can be taught as a complete curriculum or one-off enrichment. Each assignment also includes teacher resources like customizable lesson plans and rubrics, so you can quickly identify learning objectives, tips, and more for each task.
The Needs of Every Student.
The video-based learning style is self-directed and adaptable to each student’s pace but is also trackable by the teacher to identify and provide individual support as needed.
